Trout Fishing on the White River in Arkansas

February 2nd

The area below the Bull Shoals dam opened yesterday and it turned out to be a very good day on the river indeed. The flows were high ( around 12000 to 17000 cfs ) but even with the boat traffic it was possible to get in some good drifts. The largest brown we had in the boat was a beautiful 24" male. Numbers of rainbows came on most every drift with none of them over the 15" range. Many of these fish were caught on white shad patterns and by the looks of the seagull action at the base of the dam there were a few coming though. Not enough to see any action down stream on top; just a small burst every once in awhile. But enough to get some of the fish looking for white.

Due in part to a heavy rain fall last week, there have been increased flows on the White. Now that the lake is down to pool again I expect the flows to reduce and perhaps even have wadeable water this weekend. We shall see. With the warmer weather patterns more people are booking trips for this month. So, if you are thinking about it let me know soon. All the Saturdays are gone but a couple of Sundays are open at this point. Week days are the best if you can make it happen. Alot less people and pressure on the fish during thr week.

Happy Trails,
Marc

Feedback From Our Clients

Read what some of our clients have told us about enjoying our White River fishing experience:

spring valley anglersMarc did a wonderful job. He knew the upper river well and with the recent rains they were holding back as much water as possible and we could wade fish all day the first day and then floated the second from sand bar to sand bar and I really had a great second day. Hooking more than 30 and landing in the twenty's. I would highly recommend we use him again. Steve
